CHARLESTON, SC — Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester County medical societies will receive the County Medical Society 2003 Service to the Community Award presented by the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA) during the awards ceremony at the SCMA House of Delegates Sunday, April 27, 2003.

The three societies are recognized for Tri-County Project Care, a pilot program that provides quality, affordable healthcare to eligible unemployed, uninsured residents of Berkeley, Dorchester, and Charleston counties. The project provides a referral center for all uninsured residents of the tri-county area as well as maintaining a network of participating providers caring for the eligible uninsured at an affordable price.

“Ultimately, the Tri-County Project Care vision is to incrementally expand the pilot program to serve all uninsured residents of Berkeley, Dorchester and Charleston counties over the next five years,” Charleston Medical Society President Patrick J. Kelly, MD, states.

The award is presented each year to a county medical society for its outstanding service to the community for the previous year.
